It’s important not to wait a long time to have them out, as the roots of the wisdom teeth will start to curve and grow closer to vital structures such as nerves and sinuses. Getting Wisdom Teeth Removal Surgery
If you have been recommended for wisdom teeth extraction surgery, know that it’s a quick, outpatient procedure that is easy for patients. While your general dentist may detect the problem, you will be referred to an oral surgeon for the procedure. You will likely have X-rays taken by your general dentist, and those images will be sent to us for evaluation.
The doctor can then discuss your surgery with you and tell you what you need to do before you have it. Our team will examine your health history and tell you whether you may need to stop a medication before your surgery. You may also have to take a different medication before the procedure.
Our surgeon will then remove the impacted teeth. The type of anesthesia you have for the procedure often depends on the number and size of the impacted teeth and your personal preference. Some patients get IV sedation, and some may get local anesthesia and nitrous oxide.

Most patients feel substantially better by day three or four, with swelling peaking around day two. Plan on two to three days of rest and about a week before returning to full activity. Impacted lower wisdom teeth generally involve more swelling and a slightly longer recovery than fully erupted ones.
Not always, but pain is a poor indicator. Impacted wisdom teeth commonly cause decay, gum infection, cysts, and damage to the neighboring molar long before they hurt. Your surgeon evaluates position, hygiene access, and the condition of adjacent teeth on a scan, then recommends removal or monitoring.
Most patients return to desk work or school after two to three days. Strenuous exercise should wait about a week, since raising your blood pressure too early can restart bleeding or dislodge the clot. If you had IV sedation, take the full day of surgery off and arrange a ride.
